VAUXHALL Motors boss Carl Macauley has stepped down from his job at Rivacre Park.
Macauley will now operate as the club’s assistant manager, with his former No. 2 Andy Mutch promoted to the managers job at the Blue Square North club.
Carl, who has been in charge of the Motormen for almost two years, was finding his time restraints impinging on his family life and full time job.
Macauley said: “I love being the manager at Rivacre Park and have had to do an awful lot of soul-searching over a number of months to reach this decision.
“The pressure on my time has become even more limited than normal. With my close friend ‘Mutchy’ now firmly on board and the team going in the right direction, the time was right for me to step down to assistant and let Andy take us forward.”
Mutch was brought to the club by Macauley during the last summer to help with the pre-season training, but subsequently agreed to become his assistant at Rivacre Park.
His footballing talents were spotted by Wolverhampton Wanderers while he was at Southport and he went on to forge an amazing partnership with Steve Bull at Molyneux.
During his time there, Mutch took part in three internationals for England ‘B’.
He later joined Swindon, newly-promoted to the Premiership, before moving on to Wigan Athletic, Stockport, Barrow and then as manager of Telford.
Ironically, his first game in charge of the Motormen was against the re-formed AFC Telford United at Rivacre Park on Tuesday evening.
Macauley added: “I really do hope that I can take over the reins again sometime in the future, but for now I need to lend my full support to Andy in my new role as his No. 2.”
