CARL Macauley’s Vauxhall Motors face their most important game of the season so far when they travel to Gateshead in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup this Saturday.
While the Motormen have endured a difficult opening to their Blue Square North campaign, their North-eastern hosts have been blazing a trail at the top of the Unibond Premier Division.
On present form, they must be regarded as favourites to process, a prospect the Rivacre Park club can ill afford to consider.
But on the positive side, Motors have a tremendous record against clubs from this corner of the country and can only hope they can maintain that record this weekend. Any replay will be next Tuesday at Rivacre Park (7.45pm).
Last Saturday, the Motormen fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at basement club Hucknall, having lost hot-shot striker Paul Taylor to injury in the pre-match warm-up.
