Neston Cricket Club just one win away from a date in front of the Sky Sports cameras in National T20 competition

NESTON Cricket Club are just one victory away from appearing in front of the Sky TV cameras in a prestigious national cricket competition.

The Wirral team has advanced all the way to the quarter-finals of the National T20.

And standing in their way from a date at Edgbaston on September 6 is another North West cricket team – Crosby-based Northern CC.

Neston CC secretary, Richard Palmer, said: “On July 29 we hosted the Cheshire County Cricket League T20 competition and qualified for the semi-final.

“We beat Grappenhall by nine runs in the semi-final and then defeated defending champions Hyde in a great final off the last ball of the match.

“By winning the CCCL T20 competition we qualified for the ECB National Club T20 championships.

“There was a regional finals day (for the Midlands region: champions from Cheshire, Birmingham, Staffordshire and North Wales leagues) at Mochdre Cricket Club (Colwyn Bay) on August 5.

“This was weather-affected but our semi-final against Longton (Staffs) was played and we beat them on run rate.

“The day was a washout and we went back to Mochdre to complete the finals day on Sunday.

“We played Tamworth in a final played in fantastic spirit by both sides and restricted them to 122, knocking them off in the 18th over three down with Chris Hackett scoring 57 not out.

“By winning the Midlands Region we have qualified for the quarter-finals of the National T20. This means we are one win away from qualifying for the National finals day at Edgbaston and is live on Sky Sports.”

The big showdown between the clubs is scheduled for this Sunday afternoon at Parkgate starting at 1pm.
