WALLASEY made it five wins out of five to top the BFS LDCC First Division after they thrashed Newton-le-Willows by eight wickets.
Matty Hughes starred with the ball, taking 7-59 as Newton were restricted to 156 all out.
Wallasey’s Graham Reid (43) and Michael Currey (87no) then put on 106 for the second wicket to take the home side to an easy victory.
Orrell are second after they saw off bottom-of-the-table Alder in a close game. Batting first, Alder struggled to 148 all out, and although visiting Orrell were in desperate trouble at 26-6, Jonathan Cooper (35) and Siddiq Patel (68no) staged a superb recovery as they reached the target with eight wickets down.
Sefton Park remain winless after they lost a thriller to third placed Ainsdale. Chris Bellis (62), Adam Irwin (47), Sean Vandome (43) and James Baird (43) ensured Sefton Park posted a competitive 228-6 off 58 overs.
Opener Lee Bolton then top scored with a quick knock of 75 as Ainsdale’s batsmen scored consistently to set up an exciting run chase which concluded when the winning runs were scored off the last over.
Liverpool recorded a fine win over Formby after chasing down the away sides’ total of 211-5. Wicket keeper Mark Baker (57) and Jay Lenton (76no) top scored with Liverpool’s Chris Whelan (5-88) taking all the wickets to fall. Whelan then continued his good day with an unbeaten 59 as he and Daniel Hints (89) instigated a successful run chase.
Fleetwood Hesketh won a low scoring match against Rainhill, the highlight of which was a fantastic all round performance from Fleetwood’s Adnan Malik. Malik top scored with an unbeaten 47 as his side were dismissed for 120. Malik then claimed 6-20 from just 17.3 overs as the home side were skittled out for just 72.
