BIRKENHEAD St Mary’s and Maritime were the only winners on a rain hit day in the Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance, writes Andrew Stratton.

Birkenhead had 89 runs to spare at Haydock. Shakeel Nawaz led the way with 105 not out and a 6-48 haul. Muhamid Baig contributed 63.

Maritime came away 144 runs to the good from Norley Hall. Falias Lines scored 60.

Wavertree were left clear at the top after their game against second placed Alder was cut short. Narender Negi struck an unbeaten 104 for the Sandown Lane side but Alder had only eleven overs before the elements intervened.

Sutton closed on 39-5 chasing a 249-6 declared total by Prescot & Odyssey. Steve Holden made 110 for the combined side and Laurence Mason included a hat-trick in his 4-17 return.

Kamran Hussein scored 102 not out for Parfield Liscard in a stalemate against Southport Trinity. Best for the seasiders were Wim Van der Walt 62, Steve Hodge 46 not out and Anthony Hall 4-98.

Whitefield were thwarted by Moorfield who closed 39 runs short with two wickets intact. Nadeen Ashraf for Whitefield made 67 and claimed 4-29. Rafa Afridi 53, Paul Dwerryhouse jnr 50 and Steve Price also batted well.

Steve Buck with 60 was best for Moorfield.

Huyton were unable to start their innings at Caldy. Haroon Khan scored 51 for the Wirral side and Muhamid Zahid took 6-70 for the visitors.
