An introduction to Old Parkonians cricket club

OLD Parkonians first XI play their cricket in the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League Division Three which is part of the Cheshire Cricket Pyramid.

The team, captained by 20-year-old Chris Beckett (his sixth season in the first team), are experiencing a mixed season so far.

The most stunning victory this season has been at home against Bunbury with Old Parks again batting first and making an amazing total of 296-5 declared off only a mere 38 overs; in fact this was the highest score any Old Parkonian side has made in any form of cricket in their club history!

In reply, on another superb Holm Lane batting track, Bunbury could only muster a paltry 66 all out in just 19 overs.

A total of 236-3 declared (42 overs) was made at home to Sandbach but the visitors at 172-8 clung on for a draw.

A team highlight of the season so far has been a seven wicket victory against Wirral, at Clatterbridge.

There have been several excellent individual performances especially on the batting side of things.

Eighteen year old Will Walker has scored two centuries (123 and 103 not out) and with a little more consistency and perhaps a little more patience is a great prospect for the future.

In the game against Bunbury, Will and another youngster, 20 year old, Greg Lindop put on a third wicket partnership of 123 in an amazing 42 minutes with Will going on to make his 103 not out and Greg 89.

Indeed Greg scored his first 50 runs in only 25 minutes off just 26 balls - a club record!
