WALLASEY eased their relegation fears with a stunning seven-wicket win at Fleetwood Hesketh in the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition Premier League.

Mitchell Cook was their hero as he claimed 3-53 and then struck 94 not out to lead his side to victory.

Hesketh opener Gary Wells hit 85 but he received little support as the hosts were bowled out for 202 off 54.3 overs. There were two wickets apiece for John Murphy and Andrew Ward.

Wallasey slumped to 3-2 in reply with openers Kuran Makol and Roger Eagles dismissed cheaply but Cook then shared a match-winning stand of 176 for the third wicket with Joel Huston (64).

The visitors reached their target in the 48th over and are now up to ninth place.

Northern are facing a battle to beat the drop after losing by three wickets at fellow strugglers Newton le Willows.

Steve Cole (56) was the only batsman to impress as Northern were bowled out for 170 off 51.1 overs. John Humphreys did most of the damage with 6-33.

Paul Park then claimed 4-55 but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Crosby side suffering a fourth successive defeat. Newton won in the 51st over of their reply with Ian Lyon top scoring with 43.

Ormskirk are up to fifth place after a 28-run triumph at home to Formby.

John Armstrong hammered 107 off just 102 balls as Ormskirk posted 224-4 off 47.3 overs.

Armstrong shared a stand of 129 with Matthew Morgan (36no), while James Beckingham took 3-60.

Formby looked well for victory at 120-2 but slipped to 196 all out. Justin Waller (77) and Anthony Poole (43) put on 116 for the third wicket but Martyn Farrell (4-46) and Nick Caunce (3-46) turned the contest.

Leaders Bootle are now 42 points clear after beating nearest rivals Colwyn Bay by 61 runs.

Pat Jackson (44) and Stephen Mullaney (35) were the chief contributors in Bootle’s 160 all out off 50.1 overs as Nathan Rimmington took 5-59.

Bay were then blown away for just 99 with Ronnie Davis bagging 4-24.

Hightown suffered a surprise five-wicket defeat at home to bottom club Prestatyn.

The hosts appeared in control early on as they posted 245-6 declared off 55 overs thanks to opener Shaun Vosloo (79), Guy Edwards (61) and Adam Phillips (44no).

But the Welsh strugglers produced an impressive chase built on a 152-run first wicket partnership between Gareth Boughey (100) and David Harris (54). Boughey’s knock came off 104 balls and included 16 fours and one six.

After he departed it was left to Mitchell Van Wyk to see Prestatyn home with a brisk unbeaten 35. Hightown’s Sukhpreet Singh finished with figures of 3-100 off his 17 overs.

Southport & Birkdale endured an eight-wicket thrashing at the hands of Lytham.

Kyle Cranston struck 68 but Southoort were limited to 172 all out off 45.5 overs and Lytham raced to their target inside 35 overs.

Nick Knight (59no), Joseph Davies (49) and captain Jimmy Wisniewski (34no) shone with the bat.

Third placed New Brighton cruised to an eight-wicket win over Northop Hall.

Martyn Evans (4-36), Ashraf Nawab (3-12) and Louis Botes (3-36) limited Hall to 116 all out off 43.3 overs.

John While (53no) and Paul Hale (42no) wrapped up a 25-point haul inside 21 overs.
