WITH two weeks remaining, Firwood Bootle and Ormskirk are level on 418 points at the top, while New Brighton third on 408 in the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition Premier League.
New Brighton’s Martyn Evans (5-21) and Ashraf Nawab (3-37) were in form as Formby managed only 119 (46.5), Tom Smith making 34. The Wirral side eased to a six wicket win with David While 32 not out.
Wallasey agonisingly failed by six runs to pull off a much-needed win against Fleetwood Hesketh. Jon Bowden (70) and Mike Bimpson (25) put together 86 for the fifth wicket but, from 168-5, the visitors collapsed to 175 (59.2). Chris Bourne (6-37) and John Murphy (3-43) did the damage.
Bourne (52, eight fours) and Ritchie Conlan (37) were instrumental in giving the Wirral side a fighting chance but, with eight needed off the last over and three wickets left, they slipped to 170 all out. Mark Prince took 4-53 and Andy Davies 3-40.
