IRBY took on Mobberley in an exciting match at Mill Hill Road. Batting first, Mobberley were 64 for 4 after 25 overs.
But the lower order recovered the situation to post a total of 212 for 9 in 50 overs.
Irby’s reply began swiftly but they nearly pushed the self-destruction button with two run outs and a retirement through injury, at 57 for 5 after nine overs. A seventh wicket century partnership featuring injured all rounder, Greg Shillinglaw, who returned with a runner to complete an undefeated half century, and opening batsman Nathan Woods (140), tied the scores. Irby completed the victory, 213 for 8 with 2 overs remaining.
Meanwhile, Irby’s Over 40s team were crowned champions of the Cheshire County League Mid Week Competition on Bank Holiday Monday. But in a low-scoring final, Irby beat Upton by seven wickets and the trophy was presented to Irby captain Andy Hurworth by league president, Harry Sharrock.
