Wallasey fall foul of Khan’s supremacy in Prem League

JANNISAR KHAN caused devastation in the Wallasey ranks, when Hightown enjoyed one of the quickest wins of the season in the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition Premier League.

The Pakistan medium quick bowler returned exceptional figures of 8-19 off 7.1 overs as the Wirral side were skittled for 43 in 14.1 overs.

Their innings lasted just 65 minutes and then the home side swept to a six-wicket win in 53 minutes, although John Murphy’s 3-18 saw the struggling side put up some resistance.

A five-wicket haul for Louis Botes produced a quick finish at New Brighton, where Southport & Birkdale managed only 75 after losing the toss and lost by eight wickets.

Botes (5-15) and Nazim Mohammed (4-42) saw off the visitors in 25.1 overs and John While’s unbeaten 43 (five fours, two sixes) guided his side home.

With the weather unremittingly poor, it was surprising that Neston’s visit to Urmston was the only premiership fixture called off.

Elsewhere, Birkenhead St Mary’s remain top of the Merseyside and Southport Alliance despite drawing with Alder.

Alder enjoyed the best of the conditions to compile a sizeable 244 for 6 declared with major contributions from Muhammed Masroor (61) and Kenny Highdale (52), Mizan ul Haq grabbing 3 for 37. St Mary’s made steady progress in pursuit with Shakil Nawaz leading the way with 96 but eventually pulled the drawbridge up to finish on 163 for 7, Lance Mulholland taking 3 for 56.

Meanwhile, Manweb’s Peter Crookes smashed 11 sixes and six fours in 101 out of his side’s 222 for 4 declared only to see his effort come to nothing as rain prevented any second innings action against Tranmere Vics.

There was no play at Sutton against Caldy and Moorfield against Rainhill.

Birkenhead Park managed to secure a draw at home with Cheadlehulme in the Cheshire County League Division one.

Having won the toss, Cheadlehulme elected to bat and made 205 for 5 with scores of 53 from D Hawes and 53 not out from T MacDonald.

Park managed to restrict the visitors from setting a much higher target, who were at one stage 154 for 2, with tight bowling from Zia Ur Rehman 3 for 60 and Ali Cairns 1 for 46. In reply, Park did not get off to the best of starts, with Tommy Hunter going in the third over.

But good batting from A Gibson and M Barnes took the score to 54. Mike Barnes was then caught the covers for 19 and he was soon followed by Zia Ur Rehman for 15. A Gibson held the home side batting together with 62 not out but Park were unable to mount a serious challenge to the target and finished on 146 for 6. Ewan McCrae for the visitors took 2 for 52 from 21 overs.
