LAST year’s runners-up in the First Division of the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition, Prestatyn, dismissed Wallasey for just 123.

Kuran Makol dominated procedures with a hard-hitting 82 (four fours, five sixes) for the Wirral side, but Gareth Friday’s medium pace of 6-13 proved their undoing.

The Welsh side slipped to 30-4 before Mario Olivier (53 not out, eight fours) and Haydn Williams (31) guided them to a five-wicket win.

Meanwhile, the Mohammads, Zahid (59) and Nazim (41), along with Dave Smith (47), impressed in New Brighton’s 207-8 off 55 at Fleetwood Hesketh. Andy Davies enjoyed 6-42. Then Nazim (4-40) and Ashraf Nawab (5-79) restricted the home side to 168-9 (48), with Gary Wells (72) and Kasun Bidhisha (41) the pick.

Elsewhere in the ECB Premier Division of The Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League, Neston recorded their second win at Heaton Mersey – the highlight being a stand of 167 for the third wicket between Aussie Jack Smith (136) and 16 year-old David Hurst (97), which enabled Stan Clifford’s team declared at 284-4. Mersey were then bowled out for 155.

On Bank Holiday Monday in the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition Premier League, Northern’s Mike Jones destroyed New Brighton with his medium pace, taking 6-12 off 8.1 overs at Rake Lane.

His captain, Phil Cooper, also bowled superbly for 4-33 as the Wirral side capitulated for 125 (Matt Thompson 50) in reply to the visitors’ 138-9 declared (48) after being inserted. Michael Johnson was their best with 37, while Nazim Mohammad (3-60) and Ashraf Nawab (3-25) were the pick of the home attack. Gary Ratcliff saved the day for Wallasey as they held on for a draw at Formby. After seeing his side slump to 39-4 in reply to a home total of 220-8 declared (51.5) after being inserted, Ratcliff’s disciplined 73 helped the visitors to a draw at 178-7 (52).

Earlier, Graeme Morris (79) and skipper Steve Dutton (62) put together 112 for the third wicket. Ben Parker ended with 4-29.

Upton have made a bright start in the First Division of The Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League, where skipper Gary Dixon is proud of a fast-developing clutch of teenagers.

Two of these youngsters played key roles in Upton’s Wirral derby victory over Birkenhead Park at Old Greasby Road, when they bowled out their visitors for 108, of which Zia ur Rehman hit 53. Cheshire’s 2007 young player of the year Ross Dixon claimed 5-11 with his accurate off-spin helped by another 16-year-old in wicket-keeper Tom Marsland, who claimed three stumpings and a catch.

With 58 runs from new Aussie all-rounder Adam Watson, Upton went on to win by six wickets. Oxton have unearthed a quality overseas player in left-handed all-rounder Chandrashekhar Atram, who has played for India Under-19s.

After scoring 67 on debut against Cheadle, Chandra took 5-33 to help bowl out Bollington for 105 in east-Cheshire.

Earlier, Oxton had piled up 185-7, Chris Davies 55, the evergreen Peter Benson 39 and at this early stage, Andy Birley’s team look a good bet for promotion.
