WITH the appointment of Andy Ible as first team coach, Wirral South Neston are aiming for promotion from the North West League Division One.
Last season’s campaign was the personification of inconsistency, as they enjoyed highly successful cup runs through to the Cheshire Plate Final and the HA Vase Semi-Final.
But at the same time, they could only finish mid-table despite winning three out of the four games against the top two teams who achieved promotion, while both the cup matches were lost on a golden goal in extra time after Neston had been the superior side.
Neston’s pre-season preparations were mixed during the recent Wirral Cup tournament, where they drew 2-2 with Bebington, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Chester 2-0 then lost 2-1 to Oxton.
In their opening North West Division One fixture this Saturday, Neston face Formby II at Neston Recreation Centre (12pm start).
Meanwhile, the second team begin life in Division Three after gaining promotion last season and they make the long journey away to Glaxo.
