JESSE Ryder delivered a first win for New Brighton in terrific style, scoring a century and taking six wickets in the Business Assistance (NW) Liverpool Competition Premier League.
In dire straits at 59-6, having elected to bat at Fleetwood Hesketh, the Kiwi cracked a brilliant 105 (five sixes, eight fours) out of 184. Jamaican Nikita Miller took 4-64 and Neil Rimmer 3-19.
The home side lost wickets regularly, as Ryder rocked them with 6-18 and, despite Miller’s fighting 52, they were dismissed for 172.
Meanwhile, St Helens Recs romped to a superb five-wicket triumph at Wallasey thanks to solid batting by Simon Brown (78 not out, six fours), Stuart Lyon (48) and Ian Knowles (45).
The Wirral club totalled an impressive 250-7 declared, the highlight being a stand of 97 for the fourth wicket between skipper John Pugh (99, 15 fours) and John Ford (50, one six, seven fours). Gary Freeman took 4-64 and Shaun Anders 3-97.
Elsewhere, Neston – especially former Sussex all-rounder Brad Donellan – made a flying start to their ECB Premier Division programme in The Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League.
Neston beat Christleton at Parkgate by seven wickets, after dismissing their below-strength visitors for 133 (Rick Moore 63), Donellan claiming 6-28 from 11.2 lethal overs.
Byrom Cooper scored a lusty 50, newly-arrived Australian all-rounder Jack Smith 34 and Donellan 24, as Neston coasted home by seven wickets.
