Fighters try out Olympic rings

OLYMPIC hopefuls from Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club in Wirral received the opportunity to spend an afternoon at the England boxing training camp.

The boxers, whose ages range from 11 to 17, visited the Amateur Boxing Association’s England training headquarters in Sheffield.

Head coach and Chairman of Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club, Max Roy, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the lads. To be able to spend time in the camp where our Olympians train is a once in a life time chance. They all came away feeling really inspired by what they had seen.”

The boxers were able to see the rings where the Olympians train and the learn about the training styles and techniques which are used.

Adam Williams, Wallasey club captain, added: “It was so inspiring to see where the lads and girls who will be representing our country take part in their training.

“It gave all of the lads something to aim for. We are now training harder than ever for the forthcoming season and hopefully one day any one of the lads or girls from our club could be training in that camp and going on to represent our country. This is what we all aspire to.”

The Club meets three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 6pm.
