Brother and sister in Cheshire squad for Mason Trophy

BROTHER and sister James and Alice McMahon have booked their places in the Cheshire squad for this weekend's Mason Trophy Inter-Counties Meeting at Birmingham.

The duo, who are both members of West Cheshire AC and pupils at Ellesmere Port Catholic High School, secured Cheshire county titles at Macclesfield.

James cleared 2.30m to clinch the junior boys pole vault title, while Alice clocked 12.8 seconds for victory in the intermediate girls 100m final, ahead of West Cheshire AC's Laura Rigby (Whitby) who finished third in 13.2 seconds.

The pair were joined by a number of other Chester and Ellesmere Port-based athletes who claimed podium performances.

Michael Bailiff cleared 1-81m to win the inter boys high jump title, while Yousef Khalifa (Queens Park) won the inter boys long jump with 5.29m, and Matthew Spencer (Kings) hit 12.17m for victory in the inter boys shot.

Christleton High’s Cameron Clark launched the inter boys javelin to a winning mark of 47.19m, while Tom Kellett (Bishop Heber) powered his way to success with 27.02m in the inter boys hammer, and Robbie Dagnall clocked a winning time of 51.1 seconds in the senior boys 400m.

Tom Booth (Upton) won the senior boys 400m hurdles in 59.4 seconds, while Whitby High’s Sophie Percival won the junior girls shot with 8.33m, and Alice Jennings (Chester Catholic High) posted 47.6 seconds for victory in the inter girls 300m hurdles.

Kelly Baker (Bishops Bluecoat) won the inter girls shot with 11.04m, while Victoria Anderson (Queens) clocked 15.9 seconds for a win in the senior girls 100m hurdles and cleared a winning height of 1-66m in the high jump.

Amy Williams (Queens) won the junior girls long jump with 5.25m; and Abbey Gate College pupil Ross McCormick clocked a winning time of 12.3 seconds in the junior boys 80m hurdles.

Upton’s Tessa McCormick rounded the inter girls 1500m in a winning time of 4:55.1, while Emily Clarke secured a 10.74m victory in the senior girls triple jump, and Ellesmere Port’s Danielle Bentley won the senior girls javelin with 43.76m.

Alex Hailes (Bishop Heber) finished second with 15.4 seconds in the inter boys 100m hurdles, and Aidan Stoakley (Upton) posted 11.7 seconds for second place in the senior boys 100m, while Stephen Jones (Neston) posted 26.6 for second spot in the senior boys 200m.

Tarporley’s Amy Hinchly finished second with 4:56.7 in the junior girls 1500m, while Sam Rimmer (Upton) rounded the senior boys 400m hurdles in second place with 65.3 seconds, and Ali Burkett finished second with 43.0 in the inter girls 300m.

Jenni Potter (Neston) hit 30.60m for second spot in the inter girls hammer, while Rachel Treloar (Christleton) clocked 13.1 for second spot in the senior girls 100m, and Lottie Fraser-Cox (5:48.8) and Gemma Mayled (6:32.3) finished second and third respectively in the senior girls 1500m.
