WITH the first team game being snowed off at Leeds, last weekend saw Oxton's second team take centre stage with a double header of league games at Calday which could see them secure promotion with five weeks of the season still remaining.
On Saturday Deeside Ramblers were the visitors.
Oxton took the lead early on after some fine play from Anto Rawlinson down the right crossing for Lovell to finish.
Ramblers equalised from a well worked shortcorner, before Hillyer fired an unstoppable shot to restore Oxton's lead.
Oxton then went two clear after a fine drag flick from Hughes. In the second half Oxton proved too much for Ramblers and finishes from Dunbar, Willis, McDougall and Russell meant Oxton won 7-2. Prescot were the challenges on Sunday, however the home side raced into a three goal lead through Russell, Rawlinson and Hughes.
A good save from Knowlson kept the away side at bay before Oxton upped the tempo stretching the opposition. Goals from Gibson, Dunbar, Willis, McDougall and a Joe Hillyer hat-trick ensured Oxton won 10-0 to them one point behind league leaders Didsbury with the league title all to play for.
Elsewhere the fifth team had an impressive 4-2 win against Bangor. Trailing 2-1 with four minutes remaining Oxton amazingly scored three goals in the final three minutes to secure victory; Tom Scott, Matt Weston, Tom Harrison and Matt Parry were the goalscorers.
