THIS Sunday will see the first ever Junior Angling Festival held at Birkenhead Park.
The event will provide opportunities for young people, aged 8-16, to have a go at angling free of charge. Get Hooked on Fishing are providing taster sessions every hour, there will be fly casting demonstrations by the Angling Development Board, beach casting demonstrations by England sea fisherman, Mike Brookes, and pole fishing by Liam Wilson.
The Association of Wirral Angling Clubs are co-ordinating a junior club competition on the day as well.
The Environment Agency will be giving advice and information as well as a fishing guru who will answer any fishy queries and check your angling equipment.
The event has been co-ordinated by the Community Projects Officer for the Friends of Birkenhead Park, Sally Dobbing.
She said: “The Festival is an opportunity to promote and inform young people about fishing and how to do it safely in terms of their own safety and the safety of the environment.
“There will be lots of opportunities to have a go and lots of things to watch as well as enjoying the rest of the park - so bring the family along.”
Bookings for the taster sessions are being taken at Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre on 0151 652 5197.
