John Williams, Chairman of the Championship Committee for the English Golf Union said at the close of play of the Brabazon Trophy: “The links at Hoylake has once more proved to be a superb test of golf, with some fine play by many competitors in the Championship, although it undoubtedly caused difficulties for some.
“The Wirral Golf Classic will give club golfers from throughout the UK, the chance to enjoy this historic links and take on the challenges presented by this great course.”
Only weeks remain to enter the 72-hole Stableford competition for 300 amateurs, which takes place from September 13-17 and will see prizes worth more than £3,000 up for grabs.
The beautiful courses of Caldy, Heswall, Wallasey and the magnificent Royal Liverpool Golf Club, venue for the 2014 Open Championship, will host the five-day international event.
Competitors from Holland, France and Scotland have already signed up to test themselves on these challenging courses and now is the time for the region’s golfers to show our visiting competitors what the locals can do!
All competitors will play each of the four courses with one day’s rest of their choice. The main competition is an aggregate Stableford with prizes for the top 20 players over four rounds but there will also be daily competitions.
