Hoylake’s Jack Jones sets sail on Virgin GB row 2010

ADVENTURE seeker Jack Jones is taking part in a race dubbed the ‘hardest in the world’.

The 27-year-old from Hoylake will row unassisted around the dangerous waters of Great Britain in aid of the Help the Heroes charity.

Hoping to raise £250,000 for servicemen and women, two rowing teams will try and navigate the 2,010 mile extreme race looking to claim the Virgin Trophy and the £45,000 prize money.

Jones, who has recently completed a 50km ultra marathon, is the youngest member of the male crew and when accepting the challenge had never rowed before.

The boats set sail from Tower Bridge yesterday and prior to the race Jones expressed his excitement at his latest challenge, the Virgin GB row 2010.

Jones said: “A couple of the people I ran with in the seven marathons in seven days on seven continents had rowed the Atlantic and it really whetted my appetite.

“When I heard about the row around Great Britain I put a team together but one by one the rowers fell by the wayside and at one stage I even thought about rowing it on my own.”

Jack’s team have been putting their boat, Orca, through its paces in the Humber estuary whilst The Seagals have been training in the Solent in their 23-foot-long boat.
