WIRRAL AC coach Paul Waters has paid tribute to his sprint group after they amassed a remarkable haul of 12 medals at the Merseyside County Championships.

Kate Brick led the way as she won gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m.

Her heroics also saw her awarded the Royal Iris Trophy for senior women.

Georgia Rowan was a double champion as she claimed both the under-13 75m and 150m titles, while at under-15 level there were bronzes for Hannah Jones in the 100m and 200m, and Emma Wilson took silver in the 100m.

Laura McGoldrick completed Wirral's list of female medal winners with third place in the under-17 80m hurdles.

The club's men also impressed with James Williams clinching gold in the under-20 100m and bronze in the 200m.

At senior level Andrew Burgess landed the long jump crown and there was a bronze in the 200m for Gareth Jones.

The sprint group are coached by Waters who is assisted by Vernon Russell.

Waters said: “To claim a dozen medals really was an amazing achievement.

“The success of the whole group is testimony to the hard work that they put in all year round. They are a pleasure to work with.”
