BROMBOROUGH Golf Club has been asked to stage the prestigious Cheshire Matchplay Tournament in 2010.
The event attracts leading amateur low handicap players from all over Cheshire and is part of the programme to identify the winner of the Cheshire Order of Merit.
Alisdair MacKay, general manager of Bromborough Golf Club said: “We have a strong track record in staging major competitions such as the English Amateur Matchplay in 2005 and the English Men's Seniors Open in 2003.
“Our course is a natural choice for Matchplay events as it has a large number of high risk/reward holes. The actions we have taken in recent years have improved the playing surfaces and added greatly to the visual appeal.
“We are looking forward to hosting the best amateur golfers across Cheshire, and are sure that they will enjoy the quality of the course, and the challenges it will set them.”
Entry forms are available from the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs at www.cheshiregolf.org.uk
The Tournament takes place over three days, starting on Friday, May 21, with the final taking place during the afternoon of May 23.
Golfers who wish to play the course the day after the final can do so online at www.bromboroughgolfclub.org.uk using the tee reservation facility.
This is the latest of recent announcements from Wirral based Golf Clubs that reinforce the fast growing reputation of the area as a golfing destination.
Juggy Landay, destination marketing manager for Wirral Council, added: “Congratulations to Bromborough Golf Club on being awarded the tournament. This is great news and will help us with our marketing campaign to promote the peninsula’s quality golf courses, award winning accommodation and fantastic food - including Merseyside’s only Michelin star restaurant.
