Wirral Paralympian Jamie Burdekin wins quad doubles title

They will now face seconds seeds Sarah Hunter of Canada and Dorrie Timmermans-Van Hall of the Netherlands on Friday, with Burdekin looking for his first doubles crown of the season after two runners-up spots in the United States last month.

Earlier in the day, fellow Briton Adam Field and his Swedish partner Christer Jansson had earned their places in the quad doubles semi- finals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the higher ranked pairing of Austria's Peter Tatschl and Italy's Antonio Raffaele.

However, hopes of having two Britons in the final ended when Hunter and Timmermans-Van Hall beat Sussex-based Field and Jansson 6-0, 6-0.

Despite, his doubles success, Burdekin's bid to reach his third quad singles final of 2009 was halted by Hunter after the Briton had made a superb start to their last four contest.

Burdekin, last week's world No 5, dropped just one game to Hunter, this week's world No 5, in the opening set of Friday's semi-final, but the Canadian fought back to deny Burdekin after a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Having successfully defended the semi-final ranking points he won at last year's Sardinia Open, Burdekin looks likely to stay at his current world ranking of No 6 this week.
