Ali McKenzie has become the all time top scorer for Oxton Hockey first team

OXTON Men’s first XI continued their impressive form in 2009 with a 3-2 victory at Brooklands in the Northern Premier League on Saturday.

Oxton again shuffled the pack due to unavailability and despite going a goal down in the first half were worthy winners. Oxton drew level from as slick a short corner as you're likely to see, skipper Nik Heyes injecting, Paul High stopping dead and Ali McKenzie with the cleanest of strikes. McKenzie's goal was his 25th in the league this year as he drew level with the club record, he wouldn't have to wait long to break it. Oxton took the lead in the second half through a fabulous strike from Gordon Moore after a wonderful shimmy. Both second half goals were wonderful team efforts as McKenzie laid claim to Oxton's highest ever first XI league scorer, hopefully he hasn't finished yet. Brooklands pushed late on and grabbed what turned out to merely be a consolation as the visitors comfortably saw out the closing stages. Oxton will again have to re-shuffle on Saturday as they travel to Yorkshire to take on Ben Rhydding.

The second team got back to winning ways when they overcame bottom of the table Macclesfield firsts 4-1. Goals were from captain Ben Russell 2, Jed Dunbar and Yuske Wantanabe.

There were wins for the fifth, sixth and seventh teams as they all continued their good form. The fifth team won their thirteenth consecutive league game and this week take on Wilmslow seconds in a game that could decide the destination of the league title. Oxton will hope the league’s leading scorer Dave Miles will again be on the score sheet following his double in the 2-1 win over Bowdon.
