St Anselm’s storm to cross country success
FOR a third time in an illustrious running history, St Anselm's College have lifted an English Schools' cross country title.
This time, it was the turn of the junior team to be crowned champions at the National Schools’ cup final, staged in Leicestershire. Matthew Westby, who was second in the individual event, led the Prenton boys home, only missing out on first spot when he was overtaken in the final stretch.
The others to count were Daniel Jarvis (ninth), Tarique Al-Shabazz (19th) and Joe Jollie (47th). Joe Molyneaux, Tom O'Neil and Ben McWilliam made up the rest of the team.
The college’s intermediate team then finished third. Sam Robinson, in tenth, was the top performer. The rest of the team comprised Matthew Byrne, Liam Fryer, Adam Winstanley, Andrew Desmond, William Reynolds and Liam Gawne.
In the intermediate event, St Anselm's were not the first Wirral school home. They were pipped by a fine performance from the boys from Calday Grange, who secured second place.
