Hoylake RUFC pay tribute to J.N. ‘Nish’ Lenton

HOYLAKE’S players and officials bid a final farewell to one of their club’s greatest stewards on Monday, when they attended the funeral of J.N. ‘Nish’ Lenton.

Nish, as he was known to everyone, joined Hoylake in 1958, having endured rheumatic fever. He was advised not to play again, but had permission to train – training led to playing and quickly to captaincy.

He captained the first team and dramatically reversed the poor results of the pervious 10 seasons, winning 18 games in his first year and 16 the next. He will be greatly missed.
