Neston end dismal run of form
NESTON South Wirral finally put an end to the recent dismal run of results with a 2-1 victory over Didsbury.
The Wirral outfit controlled the majority of the first half and rightly took the lead when a Sullivan run and pass found McNeight.
Inside the area and with lots of space, McNeight hit his shot right into the back of the net. Neston continued to play some good hockey, but were pegged back against the run of play when Didsbury equalised with a well worked short corner routine.
Neston regained the lead when a well worked move saw man-of-the-match Roberts cross the ball to an unmarked Sullivan, who smashed his effort home at the far post.
In the second half, Neston wasted more great chances, with McNeight and Cookson the main culprits. As the game went on, Neston's nerves kicked in and mistakes were being made but they managed to hold on until the final whistle to gain three valuable points.
Elsewhere, Oxton also got back to winning ways in the Northern Premier League when they won 3-0 against Alderley Edge 3-0.
Oxton were pleased to record their first shutout this season, but the result flattered them after they missed numerous chances that could have proved costly any other day. Sion Owen grabbed two goals, while Trevor Merrick also scored for Oxton.
Meanwhile, the second team continued their turnaround in form when they crushed bottom of the table Macclesfield 6-0.
Oxton were five goals to the good at half time after goals from Yusake Watanbe (2), Jed Dunbar, Chris Lovell, Tom Mullen and a second half strike from Dor Proudfoot.
