First league win for Oxton

OXTON recorded their first league victory of their Northern Premier League campaign when they ran out 4-2 victors at home against Brooklands II on Saturday.

The Wirral side got off to a flying start when skipper Nikolas Heyes lead by example and rifled in an unstoppable shot from the top of the D with less than a minute on the clock.

But the home side were then forced to weather some significant pressure before extending their lead, Ali McKenzie converting after superb work from Gordon Moore and David Given.

Oxton comfortably saw out the rest of the half, then extended their lead further in the second half when McKenzie got his second and Oxton's third to seemingly put the game beyond doubt.

Brooklands had other ideas and produced a spirited comeback with two goals of their own. With the clock ticking down, McKenzie ensured victory and completed his hat-trick. Oxton travel to Timperley next Saturday.

Meanwhile, the second team continued their disappointing start to the season with a 3-0 defeat against Brooklands III, while the third team picked up a point in a 2-2 draw away at Lancaster.

The fourth team came away from their game against Deeside Ramblers with all three points after a 3-2 victory.

Oxton’s fifth team defeated Neston South Wirral 2-0 in a keenly-fought contest, with two goals coming from Dave Miles. The sixth team continued their impressive start to the season and sit top of their league after winning 4-0 away against Bramhall.
