Wirral sport fest gets £10k boost

ALMOST £10,000 will be pumped into hosting a four week sport extravaganza that will include archery, fishing, tennis, cricket and Komyokan aikido at Birkenhead Park from August 2.

Other activities and exhibitions to feature during the festival include Tranmere Rovers ball and multi-skills coaching, lacrosse, American football, badminton, baseball, boccia, crown green bowls, cycling, golf, sailing and rickshaw rides.

Funding for the ‘Festival of Sport’ has been obtained by Birkenhead Park Association from the National Lottery Awards for All fund. The Association was created last year when more than 20 sports clubs, educational establishments and recreational groups came together to promote sport and recreational activities in Birkenhead Park.

The Festival of Sport event will take place at various locations across Birkenhead Park, as well as a number of satellite clubs and schools situated on the outskirts of the Park.

For full details of the event and activities taking place throughout August, call into Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre to pick up a brochure or contact Kate Karmy on 07807 106520.
