Oxton edge Park out

BIRKENHEAD Park narrowly lost to league leaders Oxton in a thrilling game of cricket at Townfield Lane.

Having won the toss Park restricted their hosts to 182 with good bowling from G Vignesh 4-40 and C Matthews 2-36. C Davies and M Rowlands got 31 and 35 respectively.

Park got off to a positive start with T Hunter 35 but from being 70-2 fell to 105-8 with good bowling from A Birley who finished on 6-36. However, some fine hitting from Zia Ur Rehman Park reached 162-8 until M Shaw was dismissed for 10 and M Quinn two balls later. Zia Ur Rehman finished on 83 not out.
