Robbie Williams wins the Merseyside Open Snooker Championships 2008

CUE-king Robbie Williams retained his Merseyside Open Snooker crown with a thrilling victory last Sunday.

Snooker ace Williams saw off the challenge of Danny McCann to win the Open championships for the second year running.

The 5-3 victory at Riley’s Snooker Club in Bootle was the icing on an already very successful year for the young snooker player.

Twenty-one-year-old Williams will be taking his championship winning form to the final rounds of the English Amateur tournament on April 12.

The competition holds ‘double points’ in the race for rankings places in the English Pro-ticket tour.

The Wallasey man is currently sixth and looking for that top spot, which will secure him status as a professional player.

Only last month, the youngster claimed the amazing scalp of beating snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan in an exhibition match at Liverpool’s Olympia.

Having represented England Under-21s at the World Championships in India, Williams is well on his way to realising his dream of turning pro.
