WALLASEY Gymnastics Club is celebrating major success after two of its members were crowned British Champions.
Stephanie Rimmer, 16, and Shannon Williams, 11, won gold at NDP grade 4 in acrobatic gymnastics – the highest level achievable in the British Gymnastics National Development Plan.
The duo’s club is also celebrating success, as its other gymnasts have won a total of 21 medals – nine gold, five silver and seven bronze – from two large northwest regional competitions.
Club coach Andrew Thurlow said: “All this from a club that was only established back in November, but we can now boast 22 coaches, 11 of which, having been trained by the club’s senior club coach, Jeff, and two club coaches, passed their exams back in January.
“The club has also seen the number of gymnasts grow from 20 to over 60, including a number of other British champions coming to the club.
“We still have plans to expand further through our strong links with over a dozen schools across Wirral, where coaches run beginner classes for more than 450 budding gymnasts.”
