Motors travel in style

Nuneaton Boro 1, Vauxhall Motors 1

VAUXHALL Motors rounded off their Nationwide Conference North campaign by once again proving to be resilient travellers.

Despite their coach breaking down en-route, a delayed kick-off without any proper warm-up and finding themselves a goal down in just four minutes, the Motormen pulled through to dent the hopes of the 2,000-plus home crowd, who were hoping to celebrate the last-ever game at the Manor Ground with a home victory.

Borough could not have asked for a better start, with Gez Murphy converting a penalty after just four minutes.

But the visitors gradually grew in confidence and duly levelled the scores on the half hour mark when Tom Field unleashed a fine left foot shot beyond the rooted Borough goalkeeper.

Motors could have gone on to win the game in the second half, but the draw confirmed their position at the end of the season in 15th place with 51 points – six more than the best-placed relegated club.

Plans now begin for the new Blue Square Northern campaign, which kicks off in early August.
