Motormen battle on

Blyth Spartans 1, Vauxhall Motors 2

TWO goals from defender Joe McMahon against Spartans saw Vauxhall Motors strengthen their position in the Nationwide Conference North relegation battle.

Motors came from behind to maintain their superb record at Croft Park, while completing the double over their illustrious opponents to take their points tally to 49.

After falling behind in the 58th minute, they took the game to their hosts and McMahon equalised just eight minutes later, converting at the second attempt after his header from Brian Moogan’s corner came back to him off an upright.

Ten minutes later in a replica set piece, McMahon provided the perfect powerful header from the same source to clinch a 2-1 win and three valuable points for the Motormen.

Incredibly, results elsewhere still leaves Motors requiring one more win to secure their status, as they home in on their best ever return in this division.

Vauxhall’s next game is at home to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday at Rivacre Park.
