Bill Lowe Shield to end in a Spinners

SPINNERS V reached the final of the Bill Lowe Shield by knocking out NBCC III.

The third division side had 125 points start against their second division opponents and youngster John Simcox was the Spinners hero as he beat John Murphy.

With Tony Reuben virtually matching South and Murphy for points, it was the home side that went through and who now play Spinners IV in the final.

In Division One, Jonathan Taylor won three but title favourites Wirral Prem were still held at NBCC.

Phoenix’s bid for the title ended with defeat by Wirral Prem, as Jonathan Taylor and Gemma Lloyd both won three, Lloyd taking five setters over Joey Doyle and Roy Adams.

Andy Moulton was unbeaten as Pinewood drew with Caldy, while Eswa ended with a convincing win at Phoenix III.

Steve Dean, Richie Jones and Ian Black overcame John Henshaw, Peter Roberts and Alan Biggs.

Joe Cauldwell beat Tony Connor, Mike Ashton and Bill Lowe but still finished on the losing side for Spinners at Phoenix II.

Peter Lau won three and a two wins from Maitreyi over Terry Marshall and Dave Spiller saw victory for NFGR at NBCC II.

Spinners II have now clinched the Division Two title following a win over their fourth team.

Steve Nichols won all three while Dave Rennison beat Derek Evans and Brian Hadfield.

John Simcox, who was playing up a division, beat Brian Hadfield and Keith Naylor, while Naylor beat Rennison and Evans beat Simcox. Nichols was also unbeaten as Spinners III saw off Caldy III.

Bob Hawkins beat Roy Williams but lost to Keith Smith, while Dave Morris also chipped in with a couple of wins.

Frank Sorrentino beat Harry Nelson and John Briggs as Eswa III drew with Caldy II.

Byrne Fuller won three, including a five-setter over Ann Dakin, as Wall Man beat Pinewood II.

Brian Carter got the better of Richie Cross and Ken Cross, while Steve Nichols and Bob Hawkins won three each as Spinners III finished third.

Chris Hatton beat Mike Cooper and Ken Grain, but lost to Frank Sorrentino.

Wall Man II virtually guaranteed the Division Three title with a 10-0 win over their third team.

Pinewood III need to win 10-0 twice to share the title, with one of the fixtures being against second placed Caldy IV.

Calday GS beat Spinners VI thanks to a treble from Tom Hill, while Ben Usher beat Chris McWilliams and Brian Hall but lost to Brian Hadfield.
