Lake hit by wave of attacks

Vauxhall Motors 1, Moore Green 1

VAUXHALL Motors and Moor Green produced an exciting game of end-to-end football when they drew 1-1 during miserable day at Rivacre Park.

It only took five minutes before Moors keeper Daniel Lewis was called into action, turning over a shot from Alan Griffiths.

But it was Motors’ Sean Lake who was the busiest of the keepers for the rest of the first half, as he produced a string of fine saves to keep Moor Green out.

And a stranded Lake was thankful that Brian Moogan was on hand to clear off the line when Moor Green threatened from a corner just before half time.

Vauxhall almost took the lead two minutes after the break when Mike Garrity’s shot was cleared off the line following a corner.

But a quick free-kick on 55 minutes caught the Motormen cold and Moor Green made no mistake from close range.

As the visitors piled on the pressure, it was Vauxhall’s turn to score against the run of play.

Joe McMahon rose to head home a Stuart Whittaker corner on 62 minutes to level matters.

A minute later, Moogan played a lovely ball to Mike Garrity, whose low shot was well saved by the Moor Green keeper.

Then on 65 minutes, the Motormen thought they had taken the lead but McMahon’s header was disallowed for offside.

Moor Green then went close themselves when a free-kick and then a header went narrowly wide before Moogan stung the keeper’s fingers on 76 minutes.

There was still time for both sides to continue attacking, but with little success.

The closest either side came to a winner was when Rooney fired wide, but defeat would have been unfair for either side.

There are two crucial matches coming up this week, with Ron Atkinson bringing his Kettering team to the Rivacre on Saturday before Barrow visit next Tuesday.
