CALDY moved into the last eight of the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup after being given a stern testing from a lively Kettering.
The Midlands Two East League side led on four occasions and a shock was on the cards with the score at 22-26 going into the final quarter.
But they ran out of steam, as Caldy exerted their forward power and a 21-point burst in a golden 10-minute spell put paid to the visitors.
It was excellent entertainment on a wild afternoon at Paton Field, as the strong cross-field wind in the opening period slightly favoured Caldy.
Simon Mason kicked a penalty but Kettering replied with a converted try to take the lead on 12 minutes.
The home forwards then drove over for a Derek Salisbury touchdown, which Mason converted before the Kettering skipper crossed following a line-out.
The see-saw nature of the game continued, as Salisbury grabbed his second try on 33 minutes and Mason continued to make light of the conditions for another goal.
Another converted try saw Kettering go into half time in the lead, but a Marcus Coast try five minutes into the second period swung the balance again.
