Rosie earns her second cap for Wales against England

A WIRRAL pupil has gained her second cap representing Wales' under-15s football team.

Rosie Lamprey, a Year 11 pupil at Pensby High School for Girls, recently gained her second cap against England at Lilleshall.

A talented all-rounder, who plays goalkeeper, Rosie said: "Being involved in the Welsh set up has been a dream.

"The coaching and the way the Football Association of Wales has treated me has been amazing".

Rosie also plays for Tranmere Ladies and Tranmere Centre of Excellence, who first recognised her talent.

But it was not until the Pensby School Sport Partnership organised a Gifted and Talented Goalkeeping clinic at Pensby Sports College that her chance came to play at a national level.

Mark Morris, of Wrexham FC and Academy GK Coaching, who ran the course, said: "In a lot of junior clubs, the goalkeepers often miss out on the specialised help and coaching they need to reach the peak of their ability, hence the reason for the clinic at Pensby.

"As soon as I saw Rosie, I could tell she had a tremendous amount of potential and was better than the girls we already had playing at under-15s level."

Having confirmed that Rosie qualified to play for Wales through a Welsh grandparent, she was invited to a fitness testing session at Wrexham and shortly after a full training session at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff followed.

Rosie was selected to play against Germany for the under-15s, but unfortunately was on holiday.

But she did not have to wait long for another call and was soon on a plane to Moldova as part of the under-19s UEFA Championship squad to play against Romania and Moldova, gaining her first cap as a second half substitute in the second game.

According to Colin Lamprey, Rosie's proud father and Head of PE at Calday Grange Grammar School, the Welsh coaching staff have high hopes for Rosie.

They are keen for her to move up into the under-17s squad, with the experience of being involved with the under-19s also.

Rosie added: "My ambition is to keep improving and go on and play at the highest level possible."
