Laird's luck runs out

CAMMELL Laird failed to enhance their reputation as cup giant-killers in their 1-0 FA Trophy third qualifying round defeat against Leigh.

The Railwaymen, languishing in the drop zone of the Nationwide Conference North, needed a good cup run to boost morale.

Lairds, on the other hand, are sitting pretty towards the top of the Unibond First Division, and looked like they were finding their feet after the half-hour mark.

Leading scorer Ronnie Morgan had a 20-yard shot saved by Leigh keeper John Lamb.

Chris Nezyania could have had a hat-trick, but Leigh put up the shutters to clinch the 1-0 win.
