HESWALL AFC is this year celebrating its longest serving member in its history - totalling 60 years with the club.
Ernie Wakelam, 83, joined the club as a player in 1946 after serving in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.
The father of five, grandfather to eight and great-grandfather to four has been a committee member, chairman and now president of the club, as well as being at the forefront of club activities.
Ernie says his greatest achievement and fondest memory at the club is when he was made president, 14 years ago.
He said: "It was without a doubt my proudest moment - a day I will never forget."
A spokesman for the club said: "His 60 years involvement at the Club has been paramount. Heswall AFC has a lot to thank Ernie Wakelam for."
