DESPITE missing five first team regulars, Vauxhall Motors manager Carl Macauley still had enough quality in his squad to re-cord a deserved opening day victory over Leigh RMI at Rivacre Park.
Already without the suspended trio of Brian Moogan, new defender Mark Williams and Tom Field, Macauley then discovered he was also without both Mike Garrity and Tim Dittmer, who were working away in Ireland.
But the confident Motormen overcame the lack in choice to record a sparkling 2-1 success last Saturday.
Debutants Lee Dames and Stuart Whittaker both excelled, while Dave Ness more than held his own in the back four in Williams' absence.
The Motormen looked lively going forward for most of the contest and with striker Anthony Wright now finally reaching his best after two difficult seasons, the omens for Macauley's side are looking good in the Nationwide Conference North.
This Saturday, Vauxhall travel to relegated Scarborough before staging their second home fixture of the campaign next Tuesday against renowned cup battlers Blyth Spartans (KO at 7.45pm), who were promoted as Unibond Premier Division champions last season.
