Caldy beaten by Luctonians

CALDY failed to capitalise on an excellent first half performance as they conceded 22 second half points as Luctonians secured a well deserved bonus point win. Caldy struggled to get to grips with the heavy pitch and the strong Luctonians pack.

Caldy started the game well and were first to score as Dom Kohler blocked a kick Richard Vasey was quickest to the loose ball and chipped ahead for winger Matt Van Sertima to touch down out wide.

Vasey kicked the subsequent conversion. Caldy’s lead only lasted for five minutes as back rower Chris Harris powered over from close range and John Morris converted.

On 27 minutes, Vasey restored Caldy’s lead with a long range penalty.

Caldy had several opportunities to increase their lead but were foiled by some excellent home defence as the half time score stayed 7-10.

After the break Caldy struggled to get and keep any worthwhile possession as they were outmuscled by a dominant home pack and John Morris brought the sides level with a close range penalty. On 61 minutes, Luctonians were awarded a penalty try after only a second re-set scrum and Morris kicked the conversion.

Centre Morris then scored a well worked try that he converted from a difficult angle only a minute later and Caldy were up against it.

On 73 minutes, Paul Hulland sealed the game as he capped an excellent personal performance with a try as he powered over from close range.

Caldy now have two home games in successive weeks as they faced Hull (January 19 2.15pm) and Otley (January 26 2.15pm). Please come down and support the team.
