PLANS are well underway for the annual Young Lions FC seven-a-side football festival to be staged in Wirral at the end of June.
To date, entries have been received from across Merseyside and further afield with teams from Crewe, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester and Birmingham also set to participate.
The event is to take place at Higher Bebington Playing Fields in Higher Bebington on Saturday, June 30.
The age groups for the competition are under-9s to under-15s inclusive.
Matches will be played in a seven-a-side format and cost per team is £35 with a maximum of 10 players per squad.
Festival organiser George Ringrose said: “It is a really good tournament, very popular and always oversubscribed so early application is suggested in order to avoid possible disappointment.
“This year we have included the under-15s age group by popular demand in order to cater for teams that have been with us since under-9s and who entered last year as under-14s.
“Games are played on good standard pitches, refereed by officially qualified referees and the tournament is sanctioned by the FA.
“Groups will be comprised of seven teams so there will be a minimum of six games for all teams.
“These are followed by quarter-finals semi-finals and finals in each age group.
“The maximum number of teams able to participate will be 105.
“Plenty of car parking space is catered for directly adjacent to the tournament site.
As many of the local teams will already know from past experience this is a quality tournament which is well worth entering and winning as both winners and finalists both receive nice cups as well as individual trophies.“Places are currently available in the under-9s, under-11s, under-12s and under-13s sections of the tournament but only limited availability in the under-10s, under-14s and under15s sections.”
