CAMMELL LAIRD suffered a 7-0 drubbing at Bamber Bridge on Saturday and remain firmly rooted to the foot of the Evo-Stik League First Division North.
The visitors could not stop Bridge’s hitman Danny Mahoney who fired in a hat-trick for his team as the hosts enjoyed a field day in front of goal.
It was Bridge skipper Luke Atherton who put the Lancashire team a goal to the good on 24 minutes with a powerful header.
Ten minutes before the interval, Mahoney netted his first of the afternoon, a super curled shot over the head of Laird keeper Martyn Stevenson.
And just before half-time Mahoney struck again with a fine volley at the back post.
Laird’s problems deepened even more before the break when striker Jack McGowan was red-carded for violent conduct.
Stevenson pulled off a fabulous penalty save as Mahoney attempted to secure his hat-trick early in the second period.
But it was only a brief respite for the Birkenhead men as Ryan Salmon netted the fourth with a fine drive on 65 minutes before Alistair Waddecar grabbed the fifth 13 minutes later.
Salmon added his second and Bridge’s sixth from close range on 83 minutes before Mahoney completed his treble 60 seconds later.
LAIRD will attempt to get back on the winning trail when they host AFC Fylde at Kirklands on Saturday. The match kicks-off 1pm.
