WIRRAL succumbed to the league leaders Sandbach in a windswept game at Clatterbridge on Saturday afternoon..
Sandbach playing with the elements built up a 13-0 lead in as many minutes through tries by Jack Seddon and Jack Leech – the latter somewhat controversial given the ball did not appear to have been grounded – and a penalty from Will Cargill.
The remaining scoring in the opening half to Wirral’s credit was restricted to two penalties by Ben Elliot.
Turning round 19-0 down, Wirral were looking to use the wind but a series of infringements allowed Sandbach into the Wirral half and Alex Burton stretched their lead to 24-0.
Wirral got into the game with a try from young Jack Yarker, converted by Craig Harvey having been camped in the Sandbach 20m area for some time.
However in the final minutes, Sandbach increased their lead with a further try from Seddon, converted by Elliot along with a penalty in the last minute to leave the Cheshire visitors running out comfortable winners of the encounter.
