A LATE goal from Southport skipper Jon Tudor denied Neston South Wirral three points as they were held 3-3 in their North Division Two encounter.

However, it was just reward for the home team’s efforts as Neston produced a mediocre display against the league's bottom side.

In appalling weather conditions, Neston looked as though they would rather have stayed in their cars as Southport found themselves two goals up after 20 minutes of the contest.

Southport’s Connor Jameson flicked in a set-piece before teammate Jamie Abram's effort looped into the net to put the hosts in full control of proceedings.

This finally sparked some life out of the Parkgate men, and Jason Long was on hand to convert after the Southport keeper had parried Matt Siggins drag-flick.

Neston then began to dominate proceedings with Aled Jarvis in good form, and it was no surprise when Mark Donnelly levelled the scores when his precise finish found the backboard to send the sides in level at the break.

After the interval, Southport decided to press the Neston defence, and whilst the visitors found it harder to get the ball forward, when they did, there were huge gaps in which Donnelly and Jarvis exploited.

Siggins, Jarvis and Donnelly all had opportunities to give Neston the lead, but it was Southport who squandered the best chance when Rich Lowry saved Jameson's penalty.

Almost immediately Neston seized the initiative, as Siggins bagged his first goal for the club.

Neston failed to close out the game though, and poor marking allowed Tudor to deflect in from a free hit to complete the scoring.

This weekend Northop Hall visit Parkgate.

Elsewhere, the ladies first team were less than impressive, but still had enough about them to overcome Winnington Park 3-1.
