Golly, Josh - picks up a bronze

PENSBY student Joshua Catterson did not need the luck of the Irish to be crowned European Bronze Medallist at the Taekwondo Championships in Cork, Ireland.

The 13-year-old, who lives in Thingwall, travelled to Ireland in his first International tournament and was ecstatic with his result. Attracting more than 1,000 taekwondo students from all over Europe, the Championships provided a perfect platform for the Kingsmead pupil to prove his worth despite only taking up the sport 12 months ago. Wirral Taekwondo Coach Richard Saunders, who is a 5th Dan, said: “Joshua performed really well at the event and to come away with a third place result is a credit to his ability. He trains with Bryan Chatten, who is a 3rd Dan, at the Pensby club and this is Bryan’s first student to be placed at an international event.”

The Wirral Taekwondo duo are now working towards the Midland Championships in Derby.
