YOUR CHAMPIONS: Swimming instructor who had both legs amputated and girls football team are our latest nominees
A SWIMMING instructor and a girls’ football team are among the latest nominees for our Your Champions award.
Wirral News has teamed up with Scottish- Power to highlight the good work of an individual or group which has benefited the community.
We want to find people who have made life just a little better, brightened the environment or even a single act of courage – and both Bill Walters and the Rakers certainly seem to fit the bill.
Brian Adams said Bill Walters, who has had both legs amputated at the knee, “helps everyone, young and old”.
Mr Walters, from Wallasey, is now a “‘swim buddy” at Europa Pools in Birkenhead, helping support swimmers.
Mr Adams, from Claughton, said: “Bill helps people with limbs missing.
“Last year I nominated him for Mr Inspiration of Merseyside. The man’s fantastic.”
Peter Blair put forward Rakers under-13 girls football team in the team category.
He said: “I started watching them three years ago getting beaten 5–0 and 6–0.
“But they have gone from strength to strength, now winning everything – the league cup and two major trophies.”
