Ex-Navy commodore who became Wirral Met College principal to jump ship

AN ex-Royal Navy Commodore who became a Merseyside college principal is to jump ship.

Wirral Metropolitan College’s Mike Potter was awarded the CBE in 2006 in recognition of his previous guise as a Royal Navy Commodore responsible for shore-based training.

The 58- year-old joined the college as principal six years ago – his first further education job.

He will leave the college in October to take up the post of principal and chief executive officer of the Guildford College Group which comprises several institutions and is the largest further and higher education college in Surrey.

Confirming his looming departure Mr Potter said it had been a privilege to serve the college which Ofsted rate as “good with outstanding features”.

He said: “I have enjoyed my time at Wirral Met and I am very proud of the journey that I, and my dedicated team of staff, have been on.”

He added: “Student success rates are now in the top 10% percent of further education colleges nationally.”
