Birkenhead ceremony launch for new school building

A TURF cutting ceremony marked the start of a new building project at a Wirral school.

The scheme will see new and refurbished premises within the traditional grounds of Birkenhead High School Academy, in Wirral.

The Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Alan Jennings, was present to cut the turf before guests joined the rest of the school in the Main Hall for a presentation by Simon Butcher, operations director from building contractor Willmott Dixon.

Music and poetry was provided by students from both the senior and junior Departments, and parents joined in the celebration of the start of the new phase in the history of the school.

Officials say the new build and refurbishment will create 21st-century facilities on the existing school site, which caters for girls aged three to 18.
