A FIRE has destroyed at least 50 homes in a flooded neighbourhood in the New York City borough of Queens.
A fire department spokesman said more than 190 firefighters were tackling the blaze in the Breezy Point area. He said two people suffered minor injuries.
Officials said the blaze was reported at around 11pm on Monday local time in an area flooded by Superstorm Sandy which began sweeping through the city earlier.
The neighbourhood sits on the Rockaway peninsula jutting into the Atlantic Ocean.
